Class Descriptions

Beginners

Beginners classes are designed to introduce new practitioners to the fundamentals of the Asana (pose) practice, including positions, names of postures and proper breathing and alignment. This class is excellent for those completely new to yoga or those who feel they never received proper instruction in large classes.

 

Intermediate

Ready to transition from beginners to open level? Our immediate level will challenge you beyond the fundamentals by exposing you to more inversions and arm balances and building your stamina and strength.

 

Open

Open level classes are for students looking to dive deeper and build a strong ongoing yoga practice. Since these classes involve more dynamically vigorous sequencing and challenging poses, it is recommended, but not required, that students attend the Beginner or Intermediate classes before attending Open classes.

 

Express

A regular open level class in 2/3 the time for those busy New Yorkers who don't have time for a 90 minute class. Get in, get moving, get on with your day.

 

Restorative Vinyasa

This class is taught Friday evening and is the perfect way to wind down after a busy week. Restorative Vinyasa combines restorative poses to relax and rejuvenate the body with Vinyasa flow to create heat and flexibility to get you ready for your weekend.

 

Slow Flow Vinyasa

Designed to take your practice to a new level. A more meditative, slower paced practice to lead you inwards to deeper states of awareness. All levels welcome!

 

Meditation

Find more serenity and calm in your life. Donation-based meditations at East Yoga are a perfect way to cultivate a more peaceful frame of mind. You will be guided through these meditation. The teacher will use words and images to provide direction and calm your mind.


Prenatal

Prepare for labor by maintaining flexibility in the muscles as well as building strength to ensure an easier labor and post-partum recovery. Learn modifications and variations to poses for the different stages of your pregnancy. 


Toddler Yoga

This fun filled class is for ages 1 – 3 years. We practice poses with the little ones, sing songs and go on adventures, while communing with other caregivers, moms and dads. This is a great environment in which to practice your yoga philosophy and let go of expectations while having the time and space to listen your child's needs and wants.

 

Kids Yoga

You’re never too young to fall in love with yoga. These classes are designed to provide kids ages 4 – 7 years their first individual exposure to yoga. Drop off your kids for this 45 minute session where we play and explore movement based on yoga and basic yoga shapes, make-up stories and play games.
